Re: May be absent
Hi Andrew, I am just recovering from a bad bought of flu, given to me by my son and granddaughter. Having been away from Yorkshire for over 36 years I find that your meanderings are really making me feel full of nostalgia. The Grange golf club you played I googled and it is not all that far from where I lived as a teenager in Toll Bar. I am sure it was not there in those days. I left in 1968 when I got my first house.
before my parents moved to the Toll Bar I lived within walking distance of Wentworth Woodhouse Of course when we were young we were able to walk a bloody long way, unlike todays computer generation. Well mate enjoy your stay in the old country, tell me do you find that you are dropping your accent (If you have acquired an Aussie accent). When our daughter comes back to the UK I find that inside a week she has lost her Aussie twang (no offence). If you find that you would like to know more about Wentworth Woodhouse get yourself a copy of the book Black Diamonds by Catherine Bailey, That will really open your eyes to great wealth and injustice..... I am actually half way through the book now. Best regards Les

Hi Les, hope your feeling better, I was born in Australia so I'm not a local here, I married a Yorkshire lass from Kimberworth, hence my travels here over the years.
Chris, my wife has read the book Black diamonds, but I haven't not my kind of book, I like action stories, Clive Cussler, Matthew Reilly an Aussie author, Wilbur smith etc.
Chris has read the book and has just informed me that her Grandmother worked at Wentworth Woodhouse many years ago, is that spooky or what.
The nearest thing to a Yorkshire accent for me is aye up..lol

Re: May be absent
Sorry for the misconception, it shows how highly I think of you that I thought that you must be a Yorkshire. Man. At least you did have the good judgement to marry a good Yorkshire lass. That allows you to become a honorary Yorkie. My friends in Aussie have declared that I am a honorary Aussie. When we meet someone That I don't know, one of my Aussie mates always says, "This is Les we have declared him an honorary Aussie, he is a Pom really but we knocked the sh*t out of him. Charming nice friends I have got but I love them.

Re: May be absent
Update.
Been down a coal mine at Wakefield..120 meters, dark and cold down there, but interesting, then went to Leeds and had a look at the Royal Armoury, again interesting.
Yesterday went to a couple of antique dealer shops at Hemswell, then drove to Lincoln and had a look at Lincoln Cathedral very impressive.
Sorry Les, didn't have a number to contact you or I would've caught up.
Off to Sheffield tomorrow to catch a train to Edinburgh for an overnight stay and visit some Pandas at the zoo.
More later.

Re: May be absent
So am I Les.
Back from Edinburgh, had a great time, looked around the Castle, 16 quid aprox $32.00au each to get in, not impressed.
Went to the zoo, saw the Pandas, now that was good value, got some good pics and saw some cute penguins, also saw a odd animal called a Koala..lol.
I've climbed so many stairs an hills here, I may need a couple of knee replacements when I get back.
Also the economy has improved over here, I think that has been due to my contrubition.
Off to Whitby tomorrow with an overnight stay, then down to Filey another overnight stay and then back to Rotherham, another week gone.

Re: May be absent
Went to Whitby, nice place, hilly, freezing cold, wet and windy,
Took a ride in the old Life Boat, more freezing wet and windier.
Accommodation B & B was excellent, would love to see Whitby in the sunshine.
Took a look at Robin Hoods Bay, interesting place, cold and windy more hills, on to Scarborough with a stop at Flanborough light house, more cold and wind, was going to go to Bridlington, thought, feck this not going to pay for another overnight stay in the cold, so drove back to Rotherham, today is Nice and sunny...go figure.
Guess today is Summer!!

Thanks Martin, took a few pics myself, well quite a few as a matter of fact, but can't upload them till I get home.
Don't think that was me! Wouldn't be wearing shorts and in the water on that particular day.
But I won't bore everyone here.

Re: May be absent
Going home to Aus on Monday, fly out after staying overnight in a hotel near the airport 9:25am, a long 26 hour journey, first stop Abu Dhabi 2 hour stop over then on to Sydney, looking forward to getting home.
Went to Wales yesterday beautiful weather and great country side, stopped a Betws y coed, then on to Conwy ( Conway ) castle, very impressive for ruins.
I have had a great time while being here, weather hasn't been too flash, but have had a few good days, today has been the first day I haven't worn a jumper...lol.
Would like to have caught up with a few guys from this forum but due to lack of personal transport was not able to, maybe next time.
Taken over 1200 pictures, going to take me a while to sort them out.
Didn't win the lotto whilst I was here, so I guess I'll just have to win it when I get home, then I may be able to come back, if they'll let me in.
